Barceloneta Beach & Mount Juic

14/ 12/ 2007

Supposingly our last day in Barcelona so bear with us a bit =)

Why 'supposingly' ? lol, will explain in our next post... but till then -->

After all the walking and strolling over the past 3 days, Yiling woke up with her ankle sprained, April with her knees hurt & Daphne with bruises on her feet...

So guess what we decided to do?

Rented Bikes!!

It's actually been long since we've cycled & April and I got sooo excited we wanted to just hop on and cycle on and on towards nowhere ~

BUT WAIT...

There's just One Tiny Little Problem here:

Yiling Wong Can't cycle!!

Both of us including the shopkeeper kinda taught her how to do it & God you should hear all the screaming that has been going on *arghhicandothisdon'tletgoit'sf***inghard...ongoing curses etc* =)

To make the bike rents worth it, we evil-ly left her on the beach alone to practise..

But can you blame us when the place and weather looks like

THIS?

Ahhh the Bliss of having wheels!! The sweet smell of fresh wind kissing ur cheeks & sunlight sprinkled over the deep blue sea-water.. The feeling is just indescribable~

We cycled along Barceloneta beach towards the city centre, taking videos & humming to the tunes of Sound Of Music ...

Approximately 1 hour later I received 8 misscalls from Miss Wong saying that she can ALREADY CYCLE!!!

So we quickly rushed back to witness such a historical moment..

Momma's proud of you :)

The little genius got tired after all that cycling *andmostlyshouting* .. So we chilled by the beach & of course, did the obligatory -->

haha, what else ?

Andrea, Ck, CG & Raymond happened to be in town as well so we called to meet up

Y.M.C.A

And of course, Andrea joined in the fun whilst the guys held our stuff & took pics for us =)

Meteor Garden wannabes

And so we JUMPED again

and again

and again...

If you reach high enough you might touch the sky~

Didn't quite happen so we resorted to something more realistic...

Like cycling up to Mount Juic instead of taking the phenecular!! (cable car in other words)

Haha, we're such cheapskates~

The guys got mountain bikes for themselves and did some practising..

ON

THIS

tian mi mi~

Of course we cannot expect Yiling to cycle all the way uphill when she just learnt how to cycle right? So the girls pressured him into taking her on his bike.. April did the map reading and off we went at 4-ish... (the original plan was to take off at 9.30am..)

Something cool about Barcelona though, that there's a special bicycle lane for you to cycle on, with traffic lights set just for bicycles and all...

Halfway through

Stopped for lunch cause CG got tired & Raymond took over...

the bicycle clan (and 1 parasite =)

We calculated using google earth and it was 4.8km up to Mt Juic, which basically means the Mountain of the Jews, don't really know the history behind it though~

This is the National Museum of Art of Catalunya.

Was amazed by how grand it looked..

and they live happily ever after -the end-

But we're not exactly done yet..

cause to get up to the main castle, we need to go 3.7km more UPHILL !!

Worn out

Due to the dodgy-ness of the bicycle gears, cycling uphill is almost impossible.. therefore all the girls had to get off and push our bikes up *our pace was pathetically slow*

Barcelona at night

We went past the olympic stadium & botanic garden and such. Was a pity we couldn't get in the Spanish village cause by the time we reached there the sun had already set... Took the wrong way and cycled on the longer + more winding car route instead of a shorter one~

Imagine walking uphill + pushing ur bikes in a freezing cold weather on a dark endless road with no street lamps and not a single soul to be seen...

yeah.. it was THAT bad... we kept exclaiming 'that this better be worth it!'

It's still the museum, don't be fooled

The castle was almost closed by the time we got there so we could only explore the outer part..
But the panaromic view was breath-taking all the same..

All of us

The 2.5 km downhill was soooo much easier for us and I personally think that all the energy was worth it because of this :

Magical fountain

The most spectacular thing anyone could imagine and you could just stand there indulging in the atmostphere, with faraway dreams floating alongside the sensational music of the night...
It's seriously such a romantic place to be for couples deeply in love~

Stayed for quite some time and cycled 1.4 km back to port olympic to hunt for FOOD!!

Raymond's bicycle pedal broke due to the extreme burden cough*yiling*cough he was carrying =)

Stopped to fix the damage yiling caused ~

Had Pizza Hut in the end cause it's the only affordable & seemingly edible food around...
By the time we finished it was already midnight so after returning the bike Andrea & Co. went back to their apartment...

Cycling in a big group was undeniably fun;
All in all we agreed that it's one different and unforgettable experience ~

ahh.. those good old cycling days~

xoxo Ding
